Bookstore Manager Software
Technical Support: Program Hangs at Initializing Modem

  1. At the DOS prompt type: SET <Enter>. This will list the DOS environment variables. Look for TID, if found check the last digit. This is the com port Bookstore Manager will try to use for the modem. (If there is no TID, then check line 217 in the SYS | Config File for the com port.)

  2. At the DOS prompt type: ECHO ATDT xxxxxxx > comY <Enter>, where x=a dummy phone # and Y=com port. If the modem dials out, then the com port is correct. If it does not dial, try the echo command with a different port. Valid options are 1,2,3, or 4.

Repeat step 2 until the modem dials out or all valid options have been tried.

If the modem dials out, then change the last digit in the SET TID line in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file to the com port value used in the successful dial out attempt.

If the modem did not dial out on any of the 4 com ports, check the phone line. Be sure it is plugged into the wall and into the telco or line jack on the modem. External modems may have a picture of a wall plug on the bottom of the modem.

If it was not correctly plugged in, start over at step #2.

Yes, the modem dialed out. I will try the program again.

No, the modem did not dial out. Lets try something else.
