PARABLE ROUTINES

Requirements (all): Bookstore Manager version 5.3e or later and Electronic Ordering

Initial Set-Up (DOS / Windows):

Using the COMMunications program, call BSMGR’s BBS:

At the Select Option prompt, type in:
COMM <Enter>
Press
<F5> for Bookstore Manager
Make sure you are setup to *RECEIVE* (check the top center of the screen)
Choose <
2> for the ACU directory
File #1 :
PKZIP.EXE <Enter>
File #2 :
PKUNZIP.EXE <Enter>
File #3 :
PARPROMO.ARC <Enter>
File #4 :
QUIT <Enter>
Your modem will start dialing and download these files from the Bookstore Manager BBS

When that finishes, you will be back at the Select Option. From the menu bar go to the operating system (<Alt><U><O>), then type in:
CD \ACU <Enter>
XARC PARPROMO.ARC /O <Enter>
(O is a letter, not zero)

Initial Set-Up (UNIX) (NOTE: UNIX commands are case sensitive):

At the Select Option prompt, type in:
COMM <Enter>
Press
<F5> for Bookstore Manager
Make sure you are setup to *RECEIVE* (check the top center of the screen)
Choose <
7> for the TEMP (/tmp) directory
File #1 :
parpromo.Z <Enter> (All lower case except the Z)
File #2 :
quit <Enter> (All lower case)
Your modem will start dialing and download these files from the Bookstore Manager BBS

When that finishes, you will be back at the Select Option. Exit Bookstore Manager to the ‘$’ prompt and type in the following commands:
cd /tmp <Enter>
compress -d parpromo <Enter>
tar xvf parpromo <Enter>
.

Go to SYStem Environment and look for SHARE-PHONE. If you have SHARE-PHONE Y, change the Y to N or delete the line, save the changes, and have everyone get out of BSMGR and go back in.

Initial Set-Up DOS / WINDOWS / UNIX

Go to the SYStem Config File, #5, Line 509 = Use SPCN # from BSMDATA? Enter a "Y" if you want to use the SPCN # on non-ISBN items in the database. Enter an "N" if you want to use the UPC #.

Go to SYStem ENVIRONMENT and add the following lines:
PARABLE Y
LOG-MLM Y

Save the changes, and have everyone get out of BSMGR and go back in.

 


 

PARABLE = Parable Routines

To access the Parable Program, at a Select Option Prompt, on any menu in BSMGR, type in PARABLE. The following Parable Routine Options are displayed:

PARABLE #1 = The Full Mailing List

Creates file of the COMPLETE mailing list to be sent to Parable when the program PARPROMO is run. "Preparing Full Mailing List" is displayed, then goes back to PARABLE options when completed.

 

PARABLE #2 = Mailing List Adds/Chg/Deletes

Creates file of the ADDITIONS, CHANGES, AND DELETIONS in the mailing list to be sent to Parable to update your mailing list file. This file will be sent to Parable when the program PARPROMO is run. "Preparing Partial Mailing List" is displayed, then goes back to PARABLE options when completed.

Note: LOG-MLM Y must be in the Environment before adds/changes/deletes are made.

Note: You may only send the complete mailing list or the changes to the mailing list at one time. First send your complete mailing list, then, thereafter, send the changes.

 

PARABLE #3 = Prepare Transaction File

Creates file of the items that have been sold to be sent to Parable when the program PARPROMO is run. "Preparing Transaction Records" is displayed, then goes back to PARABLE options when completed.

Note: PARABLE Y must be in the Environment before the sales are made.

Note: You may run PARABLE Option #1 or 2, and Option 3 to be sent at the same time.

 

PARABLE #4 = Promotion Update

The following window is displayed:

 

Press <F4> to begin, and the following Message is displayed:

Enter File Name: ______________

<Esc>=Exit <F4>=Continue

Enter the File Name. You must get the filename from the "Read Me file" that Parable sends to you.

Press <Esc> to Exit.

Press <F4> to Continue. This program enters items on BSMGR’s Database that are not there, adds missing titles to your store’s inventory, then sets the Sale Price and Dates on items that are in Parable’s catalog.

Note: You will have to finish filling out the inventory maintenance screen as to what category and maximum/minimum to stock on titles that are entered on your inventory.

Note: You do NOT have to enter the Sale Price and dates on the new items. After the items are entered, the Sale Prices and Dates will be updated.

Note: The File Name you enter will be listed in the "Read Me file" (which is called PARABLE.TXT) that is saved in the BOOK directory after you send your information to Parable.

Note: If the promotion update information is sent to you on a disk, you must install the file into the Book directory. The name of the file is usually the ‘date-of-the-sale’.tpg.

Note: Run the IVOS program if you want to print out a report of items that have been flagged with sales dates. The report will show: item #, title, author, category, in stock amount, retail price, sale price, beginning sale date, and ending sale date.

 

PARABLE #5 = Inventory Comparison

The following message is displayed:

Enter File Name: ______________

<Esc>=Exit <F4>=Continue

Enter the File Name. You must get the filename from the "Read Me file" that Parable sends to you.

Press <Esc> to Exit.

Press <F4> to Continue. This program compares your Inventory Masterfile with other Inventory Masterfiles of Parable Stores of like size.

 

PARABLE #6 = Mail List Corrections

You must have sent your mailing list to Parable and received back the file from Parable with the changes before running this option. This option makes Mailing List corrections to your mailing list.

 


 

REPORTING TO PARABLE INSTRUCTIONS

1. Create the Parable files from the PARABLE program in BSMGR. Option #1 = The Full Mailing List OR Option #2 = Mailing List Add/Chag/Del.

2. Prepare the Transaction File using the PARABLE program in BSMGR. Option #3 This creates a file of your recent transactions.

3. At the system prompt (C:, F:, $, etc.), type in PARPROMO <Enter>
[This creates the .ZIP (DOS) or .TAR (Unix) file, sends the file, receives the new file, and un’ZIP’s (DOS) or un’TAR’s (Unix) the new file. When finished, this also displays the parable.txt file.]

The PARABLE.TXT file is saved in the Book directory. It is displayed after the transmission to Parable. You must read this file to see the file names used in running PARABLE Options 4 and 5.

4. Run the PARABLE program in BSMGR choosing Option #4, to run the Promotion Update. Must know the filename returned by Parable in the PARABLE.TXT "Read Me file".

Note: If the promotion update information is sent to you on a disk, you must install the file into the Book directory. The name of the file is usually the ‘date-of-the-sale’.tpg

5. Run the PARABLE program in BSMGR choosing Option #5, to run the Inventory Comparison. Must know the filename returned by Parable in the PARABLE.TXT "Read Me file".

6. Run the PARABLE program in BSMGR choosing Option #6, to run the Mail List Corrections. Parable must have sent a file with mailing list corrections so changes may be made.
