Bookstore Manager Software
Technical Support: Modem Initialization Returned an Error

At the DOS prompt type: SET <Enter>. This will list the DOS environment variables. Look for MODEM_INIT, if found check the second digit. This is the code Bookstore Manager will try to use for the modem initialization. (If there is no MODEM_INIT, then check line 812 in the SYS | Config File for the modem initialization type.)
The following table lists the modems supported by BSMGR:

If you do not have one of the modems listed above, you will need to use the manual that came with your modem and find the initialization string that tells your modem how to communicate with each vendor . For more information on how to set up a user defined initialization string, (U) please see
the topic How BSMGR Uses Modems/DOS.

If you are not sure what brand of modem you have, exit to the DOS prompt and type:
IDENTIFY <press enter>

This will send each init. String to the modem and tell you if it returns an error or OK. Write down any that return OK .

If, when you typed SET at the DOS prompt, you had a setting for MODEM_INIT you will need to edit your AUTOEXEC.BAT file and change the second digit to the new init. type.
For more information on setting the MODEM_INIT variable in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file please see
the topic How BSMGR Uses Modems/DOS.

If you did not have a setting for MODEM_INIT you will need to change line # 812 in the SYS | Config.
